Cain and Abel (09.27): Several different preparation helps!

This week's memory verses:
2 years old through kindergarten:
John 10:10b:
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

CONNECTION TO LESSON:
God created man to have a right relationship with Him.  Man’s sin broke that relationship.  Jesus came to restore our relationship with God.

1st through 5th grade:
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

CONNECTION TO LESSON:We are weak and sinful.  God is strong and powerful.

Here are some thoughts for the 1st - 5th grade verses:

Quick Review:
God created everything.  We should submit to Him
God created man and women in His image.  We should show the world who He is.
God judges man's sin.  God judges sin.

In today's lesson remind kids that God wants your heart and you must submit to Him.
I heard a sermon that said "You come to Jesus to get Jesus."
When talking to kids about submission and salvation, remember the end goal is a right relationship with God.  Not heaven or happiness in this life.  Those are fruit of a right relationship.

Practical applications:
How long does it take you to repent?
Are you desiring to bring honor to God?

Man Rebels Against God: Genesis 3

At the heart of sin is a lack of trust in God.  As you think about this week's lesson consider section of The Gospel Primer entitled "A Cure for Distrust."
Every time I deliberately disobey a command of God, it is because I am in that moment doubtful as to God’s true intentions in giving me that command. Does He really have my best interests at heart? Or is He withholding something from me that I would be better off having? Such questions, whether consciously asked or not, lie underneath every act of disobedience.
However, the gospel changes my view of God’s commandments, in that it helps me to see the heart of the Person from whom those commandments come. When I begin my train of thought with the gospel, I realize that if God loved me enough to sacrifice His Son’s life for me, then He must be guided by that same love when He speaks His commandments to me. Viewing God’s commands and prohibitions in this light, I can see them for what they really are: friendly signposts from a heavenly Father who is seeking to love me through each directive, so that I might experience His very fullness forever.
When controlling my thoughts as described above, the gospel cures me of my suspicion of God, thereby disposing me to walk more trustingly on the path of obedience to His commands.
Some other things themes from Genesis 3

  • My right to my independence.  I am worshipfully dependent on God and relationally dependent on others.
  • My self-sufficiency.  I don't need anyone.

Some REALLY important info we talked about this past Sunday morning!

A couple of us met this morning at around 9:15  am yesterday morning. I must say it was an encouragement to me to hear teachers talking about what they are learning and how they are growing as they teach/prepare their lessons.

Here are a couple of things we talked about from the TEACHER BOOK!

Parent Resources:
Please be sure to give out the weekly take home sheets.  If you find yourself forgetting,
staple them to the children's paper
have a helper pass them out.
There are some great family resources for families to use this year.  Please become familiar with
the format of the weekly sheet
the quarter guide we print out for families.  These can be found in the info rack by the check-in area.
the Family Devotional book published by Generations of Grace.  You can read more about it at http://ekidzministry.blogspot.com/2015/08/new-family-worship-resources-to-help.html

Church-wide Bible Memory Program:
We talked about the church wide Bible memory program, which you can read about at blog.emmanuelbaptist.com/biblememory

Spotlight on the Gospel:
This section in the Teacher Book provides great connection between the Gospel and each week's lesson.

Storyline (a story within a much bigger story):
In each of the lessons this story line connect the story you each teaching with the BIG STORY of the Bible.  We are going to see about getting this story line printed out for each classroom.

Pictures of the Story:
One other resource item we talked about was the one or two laminated color pictures you will have for your classroom each week.  We are also thinking of some ways to put these pictures up in the hallway so parents and visitors can see what we are doing in the classes each week.

While this time was AWESOME!  It would have been even better if you were there.

Please be sure to check your emails and this website to know about future opportunities like this.
