Teacher Note (01.26)

This week's teacher note.
Several people have asked about different things in the teacher notes.

For example,

  • this week I put some of the missionary prayer request information
  • someone I asked about shortening some of the verses for the younger kids.  This note sheet contains the heart of the verses for the older and younger children.

Wrong Reactions to Our Sin: A Thought for This Week's Lesson

Last week's lesson Israel Rejects God as King
leads right into
This week's lesson Saul Disobeys God

In 1 Samuel 13, Saul did not wait for Samuel.
He offered the sacrifice but was not permitted to do that.
What made it even worse was after being confronted about his sin,
Saul made excuses.

In 1 Samuel 15, Saul did not follow the command of the Lord.
He spared the king and the best of the sheep and the oxen and calves and lambs.
What made it even worse was after being confronted about his sin,
Saul lied and then made excuses.

Making excuses for sin is not acceptable.

Informative Quiz (don't let the quiz word scare you) about letters

Which of the options is the correct answer for each question?

1.  Is this (a)  HDMI  (b) DVD  (c)  VGA

2.  Is this (a)  HDMI  (b) DVD  (c)  VGA

3.  Is this (a)  HDMI  (b) DVD  (c)  VGA

ANSWERS and you need to know each for the children's ministry.

  1. VGA.  This cord runs from your computer to the TV.  When using this plug remember there is not sound.  Good for powerpoints or showing picture.  Don't use this for anything with sound
  2. HDMI.  This cord runs from your computer to the TV.  When using this, the picture is very great and HDMI cords will run the sound through the TV you are connecting with.
  3. DVD.  Everyone knows what this is.  A DVD player.  What you might not know is you can put a music only CD in the DVD player and the music will play through the TV speakers.  We are still working on getting DVD players in the nursery.

One major part of using these things is setting them up

1.  Turn the TV
2.  Hit the "Input" button on the TV remote (Insigna)
3.  Use the arrow buttons to navigate between the options.

First Sunday of January and the beginning of Samuel

For the Introduction to Samuel document click HERE or copy and paste emmanuelbaptist.com/images/File/children/Samuel_intro.pdf

The title of this Sunday's lesson is God gives Israel a prophet and judge
Remember God is the Hero of every story we share with the kids.

The principle is God graciously intervenes in the lives of men

The passage is 1 Samuel 1—7
Suggestion:  when the lesson says to read a portion of a long section like this I would offer two suggestions:
1.  Find a children's story Bible and see what sections they use.
2.  Decide what passage you believe is going to best communicate the title and principle of the lesson.

Remember we want to encourage parents to talk with their children about the lesson.
Two questions you will answer directly or point to are:

  • How did God bless Israel with a prophet and judge?
  • How did God bless Hannah with a son?

Memory Verses:

2 year olds through kindergarten:
“Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory”
(Psalm 24:10).

1st through 5th grade:
He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness”
(1 Samuel 2:9).
